• When studying electrochemical properties of elements due to radioactive decays he developed, along with Soddy, the law of radioactive displacement for alpha and beta radiation.
• While researching properties of the radioactive rows in the period table he discovered the phenomenon of electrochemical branching of these rows
• 1913 - Discovered the radionuclide later called protactinium with Otto Gohring
• Worked on the chemical bonding strengths of ions and particles to make significant conclusion on the heat of ion hydration and heat of sublimation.
