Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit
Physicist, Engineer. Developed the Fahrenheit temperature scale

[ Born: 1686 / Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth ]
[ Died: 1736 / The Hague, Netherlands ]
- • Developed the Fahrenheit temperature scale in 1724 by assigning 0oF to the temperature measured of a mixture of ice, water and ammonium chloride, (the coldest mixture he could make). A second reference point was then required – and still water was used just as ice began to form. This measured at 32oF .
- Fahrenheit also devised a constant weight hydrometer to used to measure the density of a liquid.
Trivia - To convert degrees Fahrenheit to Centigrade: 5/9 X (Fahrenheit – 32)
