German theoretical and geo-physicist. Father of the “Geo-dynamo theory” of the earth.

• Formulated the generally agreed dynamo theory with regard to the earth’s electromagnetic field – i.e that the earth is field is powered by eddy currents generated within the liquid core of the earth.
• Performed extensive research on the binding energies protons and neutrons within heavy radioactive nuclei and also on the wave nature of light.
• Moved into the field of Biology, specifically systems biology and suggested that biological systems e.g. within the cell, had causative systems far too complex to ever be understood completely, even by supercomputers.
