Leonhard Euler
Swiss mathematician and physicist

[ Born: 1707 / Basel, Switzerland ]
[ Died: 1783 / St. Petersburg, Russia. ]
- Conventionalised mathematical notation such as f(x) and the natural logarithm ‘e’, often called “Euler’s number”.
- Did extensive mathematical work in the use of exponentials and logarithms in infinitesimal calculus and was a pioneer in number theory and geometry.
- Co-developed the Euler-Bernoulli beam equation, a fundamental tool in engineering today.
- Determined orbits of comets and planets while also publishing “Opticks”, advancing the wave theory of light.
Trivia - Euler had a photographic memory and could reportedly recite the book “Aeneid” by Virgil from start to finish without error.
