James Dewar
British chemist and physicist, famous for invention of the Dewar Flask.

[ Born: 1842 / Kincardine-on-Forth, Scotland ]
[ Died: 1923 / London, England. ]
- Performed extensive research on liquefaction of so-called permanent gases such as oxygen. This work involved research at temperatures near absolute zero.
- 1892 - Invented the Dewar Flask, (also known as the vacuum flask or Thermos flask), which allowed gases to be stored in their liquid state for relatively long periods.
- 1905 - Built the first large regenerative cooling refrigeration machine which allowed liquid hydrogen to be collected for the first time.
Trivia - Dewar never received any monetary profit despite the commercial success of the Dewar flask, as he did not patent his invention, allowing Thermos to use the design.
