What is temperature?

So what is happening when you put your hand on or near a hot stove is that the atoms on the top of the stove are moving very quickly. These fast moving atoms make the atoms in your finger move quickly and your brain picks up a signal for your finger to say “I am touching something very hot”

Temperature is really a measure of the motion of the atoms in an object.
